Another Glimpse

into how the system is failing our children:

– in mere days Sprout and Rosebud have a fairly significant court date

today a new attorney was assigned to represent them

– a call to the office and response from his assistant, “Oh, it’s very unlikely Mr. Attorney will have the opportunity to meet the children before the hearing.”  “How is he going to represent someone he’s never met?”  “I’m sure he’ll read the file.”

Dont bother.  The previous attorney never met them either.

  1. hmmm…. sounds familiar. Prayers!

  2. Grrrr. How aggravating to have to courtside seats to all of that and have no power to change it. At least they got lucky in the foster parent category. 🙂

  3. Here is hoping the system kicks in and works for them. I have seen a few goodthings happening for kids in the system lately, I will be hoping and praying the same continues for your babies

  4. Oh, I feel your pain. Our girls have been in the system for 19 months and never, ever, not once, has their attorney met with them.

We took it upon ourselves to send him a note with a little info about them, us and photos attached at the 6 month hearing. I never even got a reply!

I sat next to him in court 3 times and testified, he never asked me a single question,he just smiled at me! It is crazy that this is how our children are “protected” in this country. ARGH!

Lots of prayers headed your way. I am hoping for wonderful news.

  5. It’s so frustrating!
Reading your blog has brought it back like it was yesterday, even though it’s been years. My daughter has a difficult to pronounce name and her appointed lawyer (who we met minutes before entering the courtroom) said it wrong every time he spoke it.

    Thinking of your family.
