We got a call

Last Friday Andrea got a call from DCF…nope, it wasn’t THE call, but hey, at least we know they have our phone number…

So, we’ve been assigned to a new social worker.  Since I didn’t take the call I’m not sure exactly what the assignment means (ie:  is she our permanent case worker?? – that could be a good sign).   She has requested a meeting with us along with yet another home inspection, to be held this Wednesday.

Apparently she did say that this should be one of our final steps in licensing.  mmm hmmm, I’ve heard that before.

Happy Anniversary

August 31, 2008

What a year it has been! In some ways its just been a drop in the bucket of all the years we’ve been lucky to share, and yet in other ways its been so much more – so much bigger.   We’ve spent the year making our new house into a home, had a fairytale honeymoon to Australia, celebrated the legalization of our marriage in CT, enjoyed our first holiday season as Mrs & Mrs, took our first cruise, relaxed with a week at the cape, and embarked on the journey of growing our family.  Despite the difficulties and disappointments we’ve experienced, this has been the best year of my life.   I adore being your wife and I’m so proud of the marriage we share.

As much as I would like to write an eloquent and flowery post about how grand and amazing our love is, the truth is that our love, life, and marriage is simple.  Its warm and easy.  Its always kissing goodbye and lending a helping hand.  Its best friends sharing common goals and passionate nights.  Its sweat pants, long walks, and laughing until our sides ache.  Its mutual respect and kindness.  Its better than I ever could have dreamed.  Its real.

Happy anniversary sweetheart, with so many more to come.

I might not have a million dollars in the bank
But I’ve got food on my table and gas in my tank
I might not have designer sheets on a king size bed
But I lay down at night with a roof over my head

Yeah, I’ve got friends that love me
A big blue sky above me
And your two arms around me baby every night

Isn’t that everything
I don’t need anything
It’s only the simple things I believe
That matter most in life
I’m more than satisfied
All that I have is all I need
Isn’t that everything

Now I’m not saying I don’t dream from time to time
Every girl I know likes the way a diamond shines
But when the party’s over and the glitter starts to fade
It’s all about your piece of mind at the end every day

I know Jesus loves me
Up in that sky above me
I see that morning sun again and feel alive

Isn’t that everything?

Party Planning

House 209

This weekend is Andrea’s 30th bday party and i think I’ve just about gotten all the plans in place.  Park is rented, RSVPs are in, catering order has been placed, updated, and confirmed, ddecorations are purchased (though after scoping out the site, I’m gonna need to pick up a few more table cloths), and my fridge is stocked with soda and beer!  I even did a little trial run of the candy buffet I’m planning (see above).

I LOVE party planning.  And I can’t help but envision that the next birthday party I’ll be planning may be for a little one.  You think this is overboard? just wait 😉

Coming up for air

Oh my goodness! Five days with no post! That’s just not like me 😉

Not to worry, I am alive…though just barely. Reason #1 for the lack of posts is that my silly employer decided this was not a site needed for work and blocked it.  big boo to them. Reason #2 is that not only did aforementioned employer strip me of my blogging access, they also stripped me of any spare moment I would have to, i don’t know…breathe?, with the workload I’m currently carrying.  And finally Reason #3 relates to the fact that any time I haven’t been working in the past 5 days, I’ve been spending doing battle with a terrible headache – and that included staying far, far away from the computer. whew, good thing that’s passed…Andrea was about to make me go to the doctor!

Now you’re up to date and I will, hopefully, resume normal blogging shortly. But for now, its off to a picnic we go!

A completely unintentional outcome of this weekend was accumulating a ton of additional baby items!  It all started when we made a stop at Bab.ies R U.s on Saturday to pick up a gift for a friend.  We had to wait a bit for them to pull the item from storage so I passed the time browsing in the clearance clothing.  Turns out I found the cutest little outfit for just a few bucks – I had to bring it home with me.

Following BR.U we went to my parents’ house for dinner.  I’ve mentioned before that my mom loooves to pick up things at tag sales, thrift shops, ect for our future foster baby, andtrue to form, we left with an entire car load! The loot included a cute whale rug for the nursery, an activity playmat, a bunch of toys, a few puppets, and more that I’m forgetting at the moment.  All this good stuff is making me more anxious than ever to finish our basement into a playroom.  A fall/winter project perhaps? yeah right…that’s what I said last summer : P

And it doesn’t end there! While driving from church to blueberry picking on Sunday (FYI: blueberry picking in 90+ degree weather is a terrible idea), we spotted a tag sale with a bunch of kid stuff.   Apparently the sellers were getting tired of sitting out in the sun because we were able to purchase all of the following for $15:

– Leap frog activity table (the 12 month old twins i babysit have one and LOVE it),

– Two flotation onesies for the pool (my parent’s have a pool so I’m sure these will be used frequently),

– A handful of infant toys,

– A bag stuffed full of sleepers and onesies in a range of sizes, AND

– A brand new swing!

I’m so excited about the swing as I’ve considered this a necessity for all the babies I’ve ever watched and was nervous about not having one.  We were even checking them out at the store when we were there and let me tell you…they were a heck of a lot more than $15.  In fact, I’m pretty sure the one we picked up was this one from B.RU.

Triple score!
